and finally, please check all this accurately and let me know.

I had the same issue on IBM Bladecenter ... and discovered that switchport was in Locked N_port configuration (I still don't know how it happened)
whereas it has to be a F-port.
Hope this helps

We found the solution with IBM storage engineers.
In fact, Brocade's switch integrated in BladeCenter are shipped with a non-default configuration. This configuration enable locked g_port, put fill word to 1 and this is not really compatible with our 8Gpbs Qlogic cards and DS5020 storage.
The solution, to do on each switch is :
1/ Disable the switch
2/ Connect on the switch with telnet
3/ Enter configDefault to reload original configuration
4/ Enable the switch
5/ Reboot the attached servers to synchronize all ports
With portcfgshow we see that the above parameters are ok.
Now our switchs are reliable when all the ports are F-Port. The last thing we don't understand is when we reboot servers, sometimes they can't get F-Port they are U-Port and we need to reboot a second or third time to get F-Port. Do you have an idea ?

I know one thing, in case of AIX hosts, you have to do a rmdev and cfgmgr, before the host HBA does PLOGI adn FLOGI i.e showing F port.
So which are ur hosts?
08-23-2010 07:14 AM
Are all the HOSTS need reboot? Normally in windows HOSTS as far as I am concerned, we suggest to upgrade the HBA firmware, Driver version checking the compatibility matrix of FOS and Storage microcode and Multipathing SW. But it is a chassis and ESX is there, then you need to check this with vendor. As I have mentioned , issue with chassis based SWs, it is difficult for SAN admins to do anything.
BTW, thank you very much for sharing the experiences, after IBM helped you.
This will help other people here in the forum
I had told in the previous mail, if you have logged a call with IBM, they will definitely help you.

Have you checked as mention in my preview post,
11. Aug 21, 2010 8:09 AM in response to: rsalmon
about Hardware Issue/Incompatibilty listed by IBM ?
Now, you post the error is caused due VMware environment.
Again, you Issue in not the same as the original Thread, I'll provide Administrative to splitting and move in a new Threads.
In this case you need to configure the port as NPIV, if the Switch is set in Native Mode
At this point, I'm a little surprised that the IBM Support not Pointed you in the Correct Way....
for details see this TB.
Please let me know.
At next Time, please open a New Thread.
