Congestion bottleneck

We receive congestion bottleneck errors frequetly from DB servers with 4 Gbps adapters. Switches are running FOS 6.4.3, Can "Ingress rate limiting" setting to 4Gbps on these switch port will help me in reducing these alerts???

Does setting IRL to 4Gbps for 4Gbps switch ports will make any difference??

Thanks for your help

Re: Congestion bottleneck

Congestion bottleneck events are not errors, these events just report that the load is greater than the physical data rate of the link. I don't think that configuring IRL to 4Gbps in a 4Gbps will do anything.

If you do not want to receive the congestion bottleneck alerts you can:

  • configure IRL to limit the ingress rate.
  • exclude that port from the bottleneck detection.
  • use 8Gbps SFPs/HBAs.
  • spread the serer load among more HBAs

Re: Congestion bottleneck

Hi Felipon, Thanks for ur time and confirmation about this IRL. But, just wanted to know why the HBA is allowing more data than 4 Gbps getting transmitted to the switch????
