I think once people realize it actually exists and its potential it will gain more acceptance/usage. I work in a shop where most people learned several years ago how to zone using aliases and hard zoning and that’s the end of the story. Ive been wanting to start using TDZ but for awhile but haven’t because 30 other storage engineers would need to accept it and learn it. Most people I work with only know how to do zoning through Network Advisor. I decided to implement it in a smaller environment where we don’t have the luxury of network advisor. In this environment we have some 3PAR arrays and can take advantage of the Smart SAN feature that can use TDPZ and let me tell you it works great! I’ve mentioned the capability to some peers who got quite excited about how much easier their job could be. I also created a peer zone via CLI and i really like it.
We manage over 30 fabrics and I am going to push hard to adopt this new style of zoning as we tech refresh to Gen 6 hardware.
