  • 1.  Clarification Regarding vCenter Licenses

    Posted Sep 30, 2024 09:50 AM

One of our customers has purchased a 1200-core license bundle for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). The vCenter license is included within this bundle, but there is no clear mention of how many vCenters can be deployed under this license.

How can i confirm if the customer is allowed to deploy up to 10 vCenters under the 1200-core license bundle, or if there are any limitations on the number of vCenter instances?

It is my understanding that vCenter is simply included - as many instances as you need up to the number of active cores in your account subscription(s) under the new licensing model. You should be able to realistically split the license into as many individual keys as you need up to the number of available cores or assign the same key to multiple vCenter servers if they are all in the same managed environment. vCenter's 'Assign License' window shows capacity equaling the number of cores we licensed and usage equaling the number of vCenter appliances we have deployed. In the Broadcom licensing portal our vCenter license is also displayed as described above.

    Hope this helps,
