Comman quick reference guide for IDMS

I'm looking for a quick reference guide that has the IDMS commands and a brief description of what the command does.  Does such a document exist?

First thing - are you talking the DBMS data manipulation language commands (i.e. DML verbs) - or - DCMT type commands - or - DBA utility statements?

All of them.  As a new IDMS DBA it is hard to remember what command is used where.  Having a quick reference or cheat sheet would be great.

Hi Jennifer -  There is no comprehensive document that lists all of the commands available for each tool in IDMS-land. However, many of the manuals have 'Quick Reference Guides' available. From the CA Support Online site, if you download the IDMS v18.0 bookshelf, it will include the following:

ADS Quick Reference                (ADS commands & summaries)

IDMS IDD Quick Reference        (IDD - Integrated Data Dictionary - navigation & commands)

IDMS SQL Quick Reference       (SQL commands)

IDMS System Generation QuickRef    (Sysgen syntax)

IDMS System Tasks & Opr QuickRef     (DCMT 7 DCUF commands)

 

I don't see these in the v18.5 bookshelf, but they are present in the v18.0 download. In addition, you may find the Best Practices Guide & the ID<MS VDBA (Visual DBA) Guides useful. I hope this is helpful, Cal

I am saying this in all seriousness – this is another quick reference guide .. it is called …. GOOGLE (if it’s on the internet, it must be true, right?)

 

 

These days – I will use google to look up things quickly rather than digging into a document – not only will a internet search usually point you to the CA documentation, it may also point to user tips/tricks (outside of CA) on whatever you are trying to do

 

In all my 28+ years of IDMS – I can say I have never used one of the “published” quick reference guides – I either check the full guide – or found an example of what I was trying to do , or just experimented, rarely crashing the system (ha) until I got what I wanted to work
