  • 1.  VLK copy of XP is asking for windows activation!?!?!

I am trying to make a vm of an HP laptop. The OS that is on it was installed by me using my company's volume license corporate edition copy of XP. This product never asks for Windows Activation. After successfully using Converter 3.1 to make a VM, I boot that VM in VMWare Workstation 6 on a desktop PC. It boots successfully, then tells me I cannot proceed until I activate Windows. Huh? I tried going ahead with activation anyway and it failed.

Why is a VLK installation of XP now asking for activation?

You can try running this command to fix it, it's possible something in the registry corrupted during the migration..

    %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
