  • 1.  Time tracking with Jira to Clarity connection

    Posted Feb 27, 2024 07:02 PM

Hello all - Looking to see if there are any users out there who use Clarity for time tracking AND have a connector set up between Jira and Clarity.

Most of our work takes place in Jira at the Story/Task/Bug level but our users must track their time in Clarity at a much higher level than that. I am looking for thoughts or recommendations on how our users can relate those Stories/Tasks/Bugs back to the correct Clarity project for time tracking? Right now, our users would have to click through 3 to 4 levels of parents in Jira to know what their work relates to.

For reference, our Jira hierarchy is: Story/Task/Bugs > Epics > Features > Initiatives

Jira Initiatives connect to Clarity projects where time is being tracked.

    Hi Sct,

There is a Broadcom Solution called ValueOps ConnectALL which allows easy data sync between solutions like Clarity and Jira. I am the product Manager for it and we have released a new version in February to allow Jira Worklogs to Clarity Timesheets.

Here is a high level overview (part of the release note: Link):

    Clarity Adapter - Support Timesheet

Clarity OOTB Adapter supports the synchronization of Jira's WorkLog with Clarity's Timesheet

    • In the new Clarity standard adapter, Timesheet synchronization has been introduced that allows you to synchronize WorkLogs entered in Jira to TimeSheets in Clarity and provide better visibility in Clarity.
    • The new Timesheet synchronization will have capabilities to sync the efforts logged in Jira to Clarity along with the Work Descriptions entered in Jira.
    • This offering will provide a comprehensive and flexible approach and give real-time visibility of the ongoing development work.
    • This offering now allows you to:
    • Time efforts created / Updated in Jira : <Entity> : WorkLog will be synced to Clarity : Task : Timesheet
    • In Jira - Multiple time entries are created for the same day - the Time will be aggregated and sync to the respective date in Clarity.
    • Jira : WorkLog - Work Description will be synced to Clarity : Task : Notes.

Here is more details on ValueOps ConnectALL: Link

If you want more information, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

    Thanks!

Connect Jira tasks to Clarity projects for smoother time tracking!

Custom Fields & Workflows: Create a list of Clarity projects in a new Jira field. When creating Epics/Features, link them to the relevant Clarity project. Workflows can then automatically fill this field for child tasks (Stories/Tasks/Bugs).

Issue Links & Automation: Link tasks to their parent Epics/Features. Build a script to grab the Clarity project info from the linked item's custom field and put it in a separate "Clarity Project" field for the task.

Third-party Integrations: Explore pre-built connectors that can sync data between Jira and Clarity. These tools might map Jira elements to Clarity projects and fill in time tracking fields. I recommended Flowace.

Reporting & Visibility Tools: Use Jira filters to group tasks by their Clarity project (from custom fields or linked items). This lets users see all related work for a specific Clarity project without navigating the hierarchy. Clarity dashboards can also show time logged against Epics/Features, giving a view of how Jira work translates to Clarity time spent.

Hi SCT, We use Jira to Clarity for time entry. We have Clarity Direct Timesheet Users, and a separate group who only log Clarity time via Jira integration. Our Rego representative and Rego developer created a successful integration process for our situation and requirements. Our integration uses the Clarity Object (Clarity Project/CIT) number as well as number of hours logged in Jira. This process requires daily/weekly care and feeding starting from a System Administrator perspective, looking for stuck transactions and reopening past week timesheets to accept logged Jira hours. We then work with users/RMs/PMs for questions and integration resolution decisions. We also have an internal process to work Open Jira issues referencing now completed Clarity projects. If you have further questions, I would suggest making an inquiry through Rego, who can work with you for your current ways you use Clarity and Jira.
