Hello OM Spool Customers!
I'd like to announce an enhancement to our printing platform: support for Internet Print Protocol Secure (IPPS), now available to our valued OM Spool community. Building on the foundation of the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), IPPS introduces robust encryption to ensure your print jobs are transmitted securely across networks. IPP, developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a widely adopted standard for managing print jobs and printer capabilities over the internet, supporting features like job submission, status monitoring, and printer discovery. IPPS takes this further by integrating Application Transparent Transport Layer Security (AT-TLS), safeguarding sensitive data against interception and aligning with stringent cybersecurity requirements.
This update empowers your business with end-to-end encryption for print jobs sent to IPP-compatible printers, protecting confidential documents and reinforcing compliance with industry standards. Whether you're printing financial reports, client contracts, or internal memos, IPPS ensures your data remains private and secure, giving you peace of mind in today's connected world. This enhancement reflects our commitment to delivering cutting-edge, reliable solutions that evolve with your needs.
Activating IPPS is seamless and integrates effortlessly into your existing workflow.
1) Configure your Policy Agent to encrypt data between Spool and port 631 on your printers and servers.
2) Generate a certificate containing the printer or server's public key and add it to a keyring for the OM Spool acid in your ESM.
3) Configure the TLS parameter to Y or YES in Spool's IPP print driver's DRIVPRMn Node parameters or the OUTPUT statement ADDRESS parameters assigned to the file.
Once set, AT-TLS encryption kicks in, securing communication between OM Spool and the Node using TCPDRIV=IPP. No complex reconfiguration is needed, making it easy to adopt this powerful security feature.
