  • 1.  Overriding NSX-T Segment Profile per port

    Posted Feb 22, 2022 06:26 PM

    Hi All,

I ran into something strange today. I wanted to demonstrate assigning a Segment Profile to a Segment Port, overriding the segment's profile with a custom profile. But when editing a port the segment port profiles section disappears. I have attached a recording where you can see this behaviour. I have recorded this in the hands on labs because that has 3.1 installed but that didn't make a difference, it's the same as in the 3.0 lab environment.

It should be possible according to slide 4-42, also still in the 3.2 beta ICM materials. And it's described as a possibility in the documentation too:

    https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-NSX-T-Data-Center/3.2/administration/GUID-93112326-FE2F-4521-9282-505FF67DDC23.html

So if anyone has an idea on how to get there that would be great to hear from you.

    Greetings,

    Rob

    Hi all,

Right after posting this I had an idea.

Configuring a segment port profile can be done when creating the segment port. If you click Add Segment Port then it's possible to assign a Segment Profile to an individual port.

But that's no good for vSphere VMs that are assigned a port by changing the network configuration in vCenter. So as fas as I can tell at the moment it's not possible to modify the profile for a port that was auto-assigned through ESXi.

    Hi all,

This has been fixed in 3.2 I was told that it's possible to modify an existing port with a segment profile.
