Is Google Chrome installation on Jaspersoft server mandatory for proper working of Jaspersoft reports?

  • 1.  Is Google Chrome installation on Jaspersoft server mandatory for proper working of Jaspersoft reports?

    Hello All,

Clarity documentation states that Google Chrome installation is mandatory on Jaspersoft server for the successful installation and proper functioning of Jaspersoft:

In one of our customer's environment Google Chrome is not allowed for security reasons. They support Microsoft Edge. So, to un-block ourselves from installing Jaspersoft server, we installed Google Chrome and then un-installed it after Jaspersoft server installation completed successfully.

    I have three questions now:

    1. What are the problems we can expect in proper functioning of Jaspersoft reports, if we do not have Google Chrome available on the Jaspersoft server?
    2. Can Jaspersoft reports properly run with Microsoft Edge?
    3. Are there any workarounds for the Google Chrome installation mandate?

    Many Thanks

    -Ashok

    Hi Ashok

Let me try to answer your questions

    1. What are the problems we can expect in proper functioning of Jaspersoft reports, if we do not have Google Chrome available on the Jaspersoft server?

SP: JasperReports Server uses the Chromium browser engine when you export reports and dashboards to PDF and other format. So if you skip chrome/chromium engine your exports to PDF wont work. As Part of OEM we have tested and certified with Chrome and even clarity binaries has chrome, I am not sure why the restriction is coming for Jaspersoft. You may try to test with chromium and browsers like edge/chrome uses the underlying chromium libraries.

    1. Can Jaspersoft reports properly run with Microsoft Edge?

SP: Yes and as browser we support edge, refer our compatibibiltu document

    1. Are there any workarounds for the Google Chrome installation mandate?

SP: Please test using the information shared by Tibco
