  • 1.  IDMS vs IMS performance

    Posted May 23, 2006 12:27 AM
    Hello,

We are considering migrating about 60 GIG of data currently held in
(IBM's) IMS databases into an IDMS database.

Does anyone have any ideas about the performance differences between
these two databases? Has anyone else done such a conversion? And is
there anything else that perhaps might be useful for me to be aware of?

    Thanks very much.

    Re: [IDMSVENDOR-L] CPU effectiveness
"Kay, - it has been mu understanding that a value of 1 indicates that you
NEVER wait on CPU - thus, as close to 1 as possible is desirable

what is acceptable? I have CVs frequently .9 and above ....but i also have
CVs quite often at .3 and below ... but until someone complains and I turn
on wait SMF record production, I will not know how much a given
    transaction waits on CPU ...

    CPU effectiveness
"R16 (we are at SP2) has a DCMT command that displays CPU effectiveness:
    DCMT D SUBTASK EFF

I have a question: What is the highest CPU effectiveness that one can
expect to achieve on a system with plenty of CPU available?

I tested it in our 14.1 and we received this message: IDMS DC174018 V90
CA-ADS ABEND. DISPLAY COMMAND FOUND IN MAPLESS DIALOG

    The same thing on 16.0 sp1 .

    Thanks.

    Hello All:

Starting with release 16.0 SP3 at one of my client sites we are receiving:

+IDMS DC174018 V9 CA-ADS ABEND. DISPLAY COMMAND FOUND IN MAPLESS  DIALOG

Here is the issue, yes, this dialog is map less, but, the PREMAP does have
the code that issues a display. This dialog compiles just fine under 16.0
    SP3
with the display command in the process code. It fails at execution time.

The same dialog with the exact same process code executes fine and compiles
fine in our Production environment which is running IDMS 14.1.

This is a CAS Dialog, the name is COEDILT0, the PREMAP process code is
    COEDILT0-PREMAP.

I don't know why it runs fine in 14.1 and aborts in 16.0?

I have searched Support Connect and could not find anything?

Anybody have any thought or ideas?

    "Bill -

I want to say that there was an optional APAR that, when applied, would
cause all DISPLAY verbs under these circumstances to be converted to
WRITE LOGs, and display to the IDMS LOG, using some fixed DC message
    code . . . but I can't seem to find it either . . .

    I'll keep looking.

Has anyone tested QO79307/8 to see that this problem is completely
