  • 1.  How to find supported OS for vSphere Web Client

    Posted Aug 25, 2011 06:28 PM

The Installation and Configuration guide says to see the compatiblity guide on the VMware website (

    http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility)

for the supported platforms for the Web Client (server).  I have been searching the compatability web site and have not been able to find the supported OS platforms for either the Web Client, the vSphere Client nor the vCenter Server.  I'm sure its there, but how do I find it using the on-line compatability guide?   I'm more intersted in knowing "how" to find it than which specific platorms are supported today.

    Thanks,

    Arge

Thanks for your reply, but I still don’t see how to view the supported OS platforms from there.

For example, when I select Web client from the list, the platform column just shows me which vSphere versions its compatible with, not the OS’s on which it will run.

I am not sure if I understand the question but the vSphere Web Client only requires a web browser - so if your your operating system is running IE, Firefox or other mains stream browser you should be fine

    Hello.

The following browsers are supported for the vSphere Web Client:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 8
    Mozilla Firefox 3.6

The vSphere Web Client requires the Adobe Flash Player version 10.1.0 or later to be installed with the appropriate plug-in for your browser.

This is a straight quote from the vSphere Installation and Setup guide. As long as your OS can run one of these browsers, then you are set.

    Good Luck!

The naming is misleading.  You are right the vSphere Web Client - client piece is a browser.  But  the vSphere Web Client has a server piece that must be installed.  It is found on the vCenter Server Installation Media.  The installation guide states to check the compatiblity guide for supported platforms.  That's the part I'm having trouble finding

vSphere Client and vSphere Web Client Software Requirements

Make sure that your operating system supports the vSphere Client.

For the most current, complete list of supported operating systems for the vSphere Client and the

vSphere Web Client, see the VMware Compatibility Guide at

    http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility

Not sure if you ever found the answer, but i was looking for that info today, when you click on the http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility, there is a menu (sort of hidden) next to the search field, called Compatibility Guides. click on and you will see "Guest OS Compatibility Guide ".  I think that is what you are looking for.

You can use Major browsers like IE,Firefox and crome are supported , provided your OS support flex plugin or run flex plugin.

If you're looking for vSphere web client server - OS compatibility, all OS supported by vCenter Server will have support for vSphere webclient as well (within the same version).
