  • 1.  ESXI 8.0 CPU Compatibility Intel Xeon E5-2600 Series

    Posted Mar 09, 2023 09:31 AM

    Hey Team,

We are looking to Upgrade the ESXI Servers to v8.
It seems the DELL PowerEdge R620 and R630 are Supported refering to Section "Supported Hypervisor" in
    https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/dell-active-system-mngr-v8.0_reference-guide_en-us.pdf

But after I checked the CPU which we have Intel Xeon E5-2600-v2 Series and V3
    on VMware Compatibility Guide at:
    https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=cpu&details=1&releases=578&cpu_series=68&page=1&display_interval=10&sortColumn=Partner&sortOrder=Asc

I can only finde the support on ESXI Hypervisor v8 for CPU
    - Intel Xeon E5-2600 Series
    - Intel Xeon E5-2600-v4 Series
    But NOT for:
    - Intel Xeon E5-2600-v2 Series
    - Intel Xeon E5-2600-v3 Series

Is there any known Issues with the v2 and v3 Modell or was is just forgotten to mark it as compatible?
If there is an Issue will I still have Support from VMware Support Portal on that specific CPU?

    Kind regards,
    Claudio Orlando

The Dell 12Gen Servers like your R620 arent certified for vSphere 7 and you ask for 8?

    ,

As per the document you attached, page 6 shows that the maximum version supported is 5.5 which is extremely old and of course, it reached End of Life. Now, what you checked is that the CPU model is supported, but the hardware itself it is not as per the VMware HCL.

If you make the upgrade, the server will not be supported as it is not in the HCL, it may work, but you face an issue related to ESXi itself, you will not have a 2nd option.
