  • 1.  BSOD after resetting virtual machine

    Posted Mar 04, 2010 04:45 PM

    Hello People,

I have a virtual machine hosting Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 that i modified a few network settings on the other day. After modifying the settings i lost connection to the virtual machine but i was able to get in using the vsphere client console. After a few moments i gained connectivity again so i was able to remote in and resume working.

Today i changed settings back to what they originally were but this time the connectivity never came back and the vsphere client console wasn't responding either. I reset the virtual machine and upon reboot i get a BSOD with the following stop error:

    0x0000007b 0xfffff880009a9928 0xffffffffc0000034 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000

    (No other information available)

(It flashes this blue screen and then restarts)

I don't believe the problem is related to the network settings change i just wanted to explain what i was doing before i had to reset the virtual machine.

    Thanks in advanced!!

Check your hardware, put memtest to run for a couple of hours on physical server

I am running multiple virtual machines on this server host. I don't believe the RAM is bad. I can't afford to take the server down to run memtest either.

I forgot to mention i tried Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration. Neither worked.

Do you have a backup? I would recommend restoring to a previous version. It may be that your VMDK is corrupt. Is your storage local or iSCSI, etc.....

@Hfeldman I have no backup of the vm itself. Ironically it was the backup process that i was trying to get working when this happened.

I am just creating a new server instance and i am going to mount the old vmdk and pull all of my data that way.

What changes did you made exactly, can you explain.....Did you made any changes on SCSI Controllers.....PCI Slot ID's might have changed. Are you able to clone this box....

    Thanks,,

@ Geddam: I was adjusting TCP Offload and Large Send Offload settings for the network adapter. Hence why i lost my connection.
