CA Service Management

    Good morning gents/ladies.
I'm a consultant involved in a CMDB overhaul with a client of ours.
They will be using Service Desk 12 and I'm looking for guides/docs that will help me to understand:
    - What CMDB SD12 comes with "out of the box"
    - Good practice recommendations on optimising a CMDB for their specific requirements. e.g. they will be using for Incident/Problem/Change and possibly other ITIL processes. I'm looking to ensure that these are future-proofed into the CMDB design
    - Interfacing with a different Asset management tool. They client will be using SCCM for asset management. My understanding is that there are CA provided APIs (?) to allowing interface. I'd like to understand how that's done, it's difficulty and what requirements need to be set to SCCM to ensure that it's handing over the appropriate data

I'm assuming that docs exist on the above, if you could please advise of the appropriate URLs, that would be wonderful.
    My thanks in advance.

    regards

    Mike

There are a couple of sources that you will probably find to be the most help here. For a definition of what "comes OOTB" you should refer to the CA CMDB Technical Reference Guide that comes with the version of SDM that you are working with. The Families and Classes section will give you a pretty comprehensive detail of the objects that are supported without any additional defintion.

The other reference is the CA CMDB Integrations Geen Book You can access it at https://support.ca.com/phpdocs/7/common/greenbooks/CA_CMDB_Integrations_ENU.pdf when logged into support connect.

In an attempt to access the link to the Greenbook, the following message is generated:

You are not authorized to view this content.

Is it possible to get this document via some other means?

    Thanks,

The CMDB Technical Reference Guide is located in the Doc's directory of Service Desk Manager. If youi have access to the Service Desk Server you have it.

    Hello Brad,

The GreenBook URL may be broken, please copy and paste the entire URL in the address bar of IE:

    https://support.ca.com/phpdocs/7/common/greenbooks/CA_CMDB_Integrations_ENU.pdf

You may also try accessing from CMDB GreenBook. If you still see the same error, try using different browser to see if it works.

    Thanks,
    Naveen

    Hi Santhi,

Welcome to the SDM Global Community!

You may review the CMDB Technical Reference Guide(CA_SDM_CMDB_Tech_Ref_ENU.pdf) located in the Doc's directory of Service Desk Manager folder. Chapter 3 contains information about the preparing and loading the data. Chapter 4 contains information about the CI Reconciliation.

    Thanks,
    Naveen
