  • 1.  Move Webi report from prod to Dev

    Posted Sep 23, 2010 05:00 PM
    Hello,

Anyone know how to export a report from one environment and bring it into another. I checked some options, however, not sure how I can do this.

I started building a report in my infoview in prod and want to copy it over to Dev. This way I can bring it into Clarity Dev and test it.

    Thank you

Try using the Import Wizard from your BO Server.

You can read more about Import Wizard online. There are some points to watch out so that you do not overwrite the Universes/Connections etc.

    Thanks

    Hi …

Here are few steps to backup/Restore of reports from one BO environment to other BO environment

    **Backup/Restoration of Reports

    Creating Backup (biar) file
    1. Start the Import Wizard. From the Start menu, select Programs >Business Objects XI Release 2 > Business Objects Enterprise > Import Wizard. The Import Wizard dialog box appears.
    2. Click Next. The Source environment dialog box appears.
    3. Choose Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 from the Source list.
    4. Enter name of the source CMS in the CMS Name field
    5. Type the User Name and Password that provide you with administrative rights to the source environment.
    6. Click Next. The Destination Environment dialog box appears
    7. Choose destination as “Business Intelligence Archive Resource (BIAR) File”
    8. Enter the location of the file in the BIAR file and then click next.
    9. Choose the types of object to import.
    10. Clear the check boxes for the items you don’t want to import, and then click next.
    11. Select the folders and objects you want to import by clicking the box beside the item.
    12. Choose Import the Universes and Connections that the selected Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence documents use directly. In the next dialog box, you can select additional universes that are not used by any imported document.
    13. Select the Universe folders and universes you want to import by selecting the box beside the item. (Do not select any universe. Universe will get automatically selected for the WebI report you mentioned in previous select.) Click on ‘Next’
    14. Choose as Option to import selected reports that use repository objects. Click on Next
    15. Click on Finish to compete Import

    Restoring backup (biar) file

    1. Start the Import Wizard. From the Start menu, select Programs >Business Objects XI Release 2 > Business Objects Enterprise > Import Wizard.
The Import Wizard dialog box appears.
    2. Click Next. The Source environment dialog box appears.
    3. Choose either Business Intelligence Archive Resource (BIAR) File or Text file from the Source list.
    4. Enter the location of the file in the BIAR file or Import file field, and then click next.
    5. Choose the destination environment in which to export.

If you want to export to a CMS

    a. Type the name of the destination environment’s Central Management Server in the CMS Name field.

    b. Type the User Name and Password of an Enterprise account

That provides you with administrative rights to the Business Objects Enterprise systems. Click Next.
    6. Choose the types of object to import.
    7. Select the folders and objects you want to import by clicking the box beside item
    8. Click on Next. Choose Import the Universes and Connections that the selected Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence documents use directly. In the next dialog box, you can select additional universes that are not used by any imported document.
    9. Select the universe folders and universes you want to import by selecting the box beside the item
    10. Click Finish to complete restoration from Backup (.biar) file

    Thanks,
    Deepak

    Hi,

Were you able to move the files from oen server to another? We have a similar situation and not sure what options to select when choosing the types of object to import.
"10. Clear the check boxes for the items you don’t want to import, and then click next."

If I just want to move specific WebI reports and not the related folder, how do we do that?

When we moved the file to destination server, it created a folder suffixed with (2) and then the report inside it in the destination folder.

    Thanks,
    Pallavi
