When a program suddenly starts grabbing lots of RLE's the first thing we
look for is a ""storage grabber"" - such as a long running (usually batch)
program with no COMMIT policy - it keeps grabbing more storage for ""lock
table entries"". If you have lots of storage I'd expect to see RLE's
being chewed up - with less storage you might expect to go SOS before
    blowing RLE's ?

    Just a thought - cheers - Gary
