That's not exactly true about coming from the user community.
I, for one, started in IDMS as a user, with IDMS CAMP. There was no DC,
we
used TaskMaster (I think that was what it was called). I then moved to
another user site where, after an extensive analysis of DBMSs available
(about 23 if I remember right), we selected IDMS, and none of the IBM
products made it to the top 3. Through all of this I was an application
programmer, DBA, DCA and bug fixer. Yes, I fixed some bugs and then told
support how I fixed it. I worked with all aspects of the IDMS products
as a
client BEFORE I ever became a Cullinet employee. That is probably why I
worked in both DB and DC Level 1 before advancing to DB Level 2 where I
still work on DB and occasionally some DC related issues, though
concentrate
more on SQL issues right now.
I don't know if anyone else in the group came from the user community,
but
I, for one, did.
