  • 1.  distributed "system agent 7.0" usage

    Hi,

We've been users of ESP cybAgents on Sun and Windows for years. Today, someone has inquired as to whether the agents support linux (on a windows box).
So my questions revolve around how to install/obtain the correct setup.bin or setup.exe that would allow same:

In the past, when we needed to install an ESP cybAgent agent on unix or windows,
we have a specific winzip file provided by CA for specifically for Windows:
"ESP_System_Agent_Windows_R7.0.zip" which would have necessary files such as setup.exe etal that we would use when installing on a wintel server,
or "ESP_System_Agent_Solaris_R7.0.zip" which would have setup.bin file, etal which we'd use for installing cybAgent on SUN-Solaris servers.

Now a user has asked if CA has a cybAgent for LINUX (running on a windows server).
I have found documentation on CA Online for "ESP SYSTEM Agent 7.0" as well as an .iso downloadable product file (CDM03214431E.iso) that contains an image of same.

My questions are: 1) Is this "System Agent 7.0" what CA now uses for Sun AND Windows, AND HP AND LINUX and AIX????...ie one agent for ALL platforms??
(and thus..if we wanted an agent for a Windows box that runs Linux..this
CDM03214431E.iso is what we'd actually have to use???)

Question 2: I see the date of the CDM03214431E.iso is 3/26/2007.
If this CDM03214431E.iso is supposed to be the only agent software from CA,
(I saw nothing else in products to download),
how do you reconcile the fact that I have files such as "SUN X86" setup.bin dated
    2/4/2010 and a Windows 2008 Vista setup.exe dated 2/10/2009
(point being that these are NEWER than the system CDM03214431E.iso file by a couple years!..and also such a "system agent 7.0" would likely not work on Vista 2008.

Anyone have experience with this "system agent 7.0" ??

    thanks,
    Mike

Hi …I think I figured it out on my own…looks like CA is packaging the “system agent” as a one size fits all” and I see various flavors of patches in the published solutions that would explain the date differences.

    Mike,
Digging around looking for information on the R7 agent and agent(s) for different platforms and the new 'method' were each additional agent is a 'pluggin'. This is how I am understanding this.

If my memory serves me right from other (old) posts on the old listserv I remember your shop also running the Peoplesoft agent?

We are running the R7 I am upgrading the Peoplesoft agent here to R2.1sp1 (a little behind times) and not real hip on the 'pluggin' concept of both being under the same agent control. One breaks they both do?

Is this what you are doing? Or am I imagining remembering that you folks have the Peoplesoft agent?

Appreciate any feedback or known pains.

    Hi Fred,
We never went through with the Peoplesoft agents, so sorry, I cannot speak to how they are installed or upgraded.
Thus far, we've been using only the Solaris and Windows cybAgents. (just recently started the r11.3s).
I've installed the few sun and windows R11.3s the same as the R7s..haven't seen anything regarding plugins
