  • 1.  ADSC DIALOG option

    Posted Jun 01, 2006 01:38 AM
Currently we run all of our dialogs with the DIAGNOSTIC TABLE IS ENABLED
set to ON. The obvious upside to this is that when we have a production
abend, we can instantly see the line on which the abend occurred. The
documentation recommends turning this option off when a dialog is put
into production, in order to reduce load module size (and therefore
system resource usage). I see by regenning a dialog with and without
the option that the load module size change can be significant. Does
anyone have any wisdom or experiences to share regarding this? (i.e.
are there any other upsides/downsides to setting this to OFF)?

    Thanks.

    CICS/IDMS/SQL
"We have used IDMS/SQL databases with ADS, batch, and web applications.
Now someone want to use them with CICS programs. We do have some
CICS/IDMS applications, but have never accessed relational databases
    from CICS.

    1) Any tips and hints for implementing this would be appreciated.

    2) Currently, production CICS programs are compiled a couple of days
ahead of time to a staging library. Am I correct in thinking that this
will not be possible for CICS/IDMS/SQL programs, due to the access
    modules?

    Re: Broken pointer utility
    "Lutz:

We use CA-DB-AUDIT, its reports, simulate and resolve a lot of differnt
kinds of broken chains. Its works very nice, the time that you have to
analize may be the constraint to use it all the time, but the utilitie have
a lot of optios to deal with this, like the quickcheck option. For us, its
save us a lot of time analizing and resolving some broken chains.
    I hope this help.

There are several utilities on the market that will audit an IDMS
database for corruption and then optionally fix any problems large
scale. Which one would you recommend?

    Re: Broken pointer utility
"Lutz- DBRepair from HSL is great. You run the utility, it gives a report
    of what's wrong,
you check it, you take the output from DBRepair and run it thru BCF Fix
    Page.
It does all of the work.
