    Hi all,

I wanted to know whether the tasks deleted from projects will reside any where in the data base!!
If so in which table we can find them???
i need to send notification after task deletion ...is there any particular attribute/details in clarity to find deleted tasks??
clarity version im using is v13.1 and os is windows 2008r2
Please let me know if u know any information regarding above job..

    Thanks & Regards,
    Radha Vihari

Tasks which have time-recorded (actuals) against them will never be deleted from the database - if you do try to delete them in Clarity or the planning tool then they do not get deleted, they move under a special "Deleted Tasks" phase of the project plan - so you can still find the tasks (both in the application and on the database).

For tasks which have no time recorded against them, then Clarity will allow a full-delete - the record will be removed from the database. I suspect that the only way you could track this is turn AUDIT on for tasks and set the values so deletes are audited - you could then see the data in the audit tables on the database (and perhaps generate a notification based on a regular "sweep" of that data).

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for the update.
But can you please elaborate how we can generate a notification based on a regular "sweep" of that data(insertion of data into cmn_sec_audits table)?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Not the audit !!!

Need to check the prtask table, and locate the phase name "Deleted Tasks", and check the phase's wbs sequence and other details

No I did mean the audit tables (and not the task). My point was that for tasks that have actually been deleted from the application (rather than those that have just been moved under "Deleted Tasks") - then I think you can audit that action and so there will be a trace in the audit tables (and nothing in the task table).

@Vihari - so what I mean by a regular sweep is that you have some regularly scheduled process (could be in GEL, could be in Java, could be in "anything" really) that reads the audit data and then sends an email as required - this would all be built by you, none of that is stock-Clarity functionality.

    Hi ,

Can we associate audit trail results with a process?

    Thanks & Regards,

    No.

Processes are associated with objects. The audit trail is just a dump of data.

You could build an ad-hoc process (one not associated to any object) and in that process construct your GEL (or SP or Java or whatever) that would read the audit trail data though.

Why not just baseline the schedule when it has been developed and agreed upon? When a change occurs and the schedule has to be modified, a change request should be generated, and the scheduled modified appropriately, then baselined again. Just compare the various baselines to current schedule to see what changed including tasks that were deleted.

So this thread begs the question, why do you want to see the deleted tasks? Is there a lack of trust with the project managers? Is the organization micro-managing the schedules? etc.

Just my 5 cents (not due to inflation, but die to Canada getting rid of the penny so I cannot give 2 cents)

Are you saying that when a task is deleted it stays in the baseline?

Sorry, I was confusing the inactivate task with delete task and doing baselining. Got confused for a few moments.

    My apologies to all.

Just to let everyone know, MSP Professional 2010 allows you to cancel a task and it keeps the task in the project plan. This is called inactivating the task and it does not affect resource availability, the project schedule, or how other tasks are scheduled.

Neat stuff to experiment with. As I play with it more, I'll post more.

    No problem Mike.
Some people perceive baselines at first to be version control, but it is not.
Baseline has the same tasks, resources and assignments as the current plan and the baseline data is just attributes for them.
