  • 1.  Sudden extreme lag and sound distortion in VMWare

Hey guys, hope y'all doing well and hopefully someone can shed some light on a recent issue I came across.

I've been using a Windows XP SP3 x86 just fine for the past two weeks or so for some old games which have issues playing on my own machine with Windows 11. However, starting yesterday morning, I started experiencing extreme lag (when I move my mouse, when I move windows around on the screen etc) and sound distortion (this one more so on the Windows logon sound). VMWare Tools are installed, I reinstalled Windows XP multiple times thinking I messed something up and that's why the lag started happening, but that's not the case. I changed the specs a thousand times, in hopes it was the configuration at fault or something of the sort, but it doesn't seem to be that.

One thing that comes to mind is that in the last 3 days or so, I have installed Windows Subsystem for Android and by accident some kind of emulator which disabled my Hyper-V. I re-enabled what I needed to enable for WSA to work again, but I swear the lag started happening in VMWare after that emulator did its thing and disabled Hyper-V. Even if the settings seem to be back to normal now as they were when VMWare was working just fine, it's still extremely laggy. To clarify, WSA and VMWare have worked together just fine for days before that emulator seems to have messed things up by disabling things which essentially broke WSA too. It wasn't my intention to install the emulator, but that's a whole other story there.

Here's my PC specs: Motherboard: ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, 3.70GHz RAM: 32 GB GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080, 8GB
VMWare specs for Windows XP I have set, which have worked fine before: RAM: 4 GB Processors: 2, 4 cores HDD: 120 GB Display: 1 GB
The Windows features I have on: Virtual Machine Platform
What I turned off because of the whole WSA issue: Windows Hypervisor Platform (had this on, but it was still laggy and since it didn't affect anything, I turned it back off), Hyper-V

I appreciate any help or insight on this - I really don't feel like having to reinstall my whole W11 on my machine too.

I've been playing around with some Windows Features, turning some off, some on etc.
Turns out that VMWare works fine if the feature Virtual Machine Platform is turned off (Hyper-V and Windows Hypervisor Platform don't seem to be affecting anything and they're both off). But if I turn that off, Windows Subsystem for Android doesn't work anymore and apps/games don't start.
If Virtual Machine Platform is on, WSA works, but VMWare is super laggy and the sound is distorted.
Before I accidentally installed that emulator which seems to have messed with some features (wouldn't be able to tell what it messed with because it was all in Chinese), both VMWare and WSA were working just fine alongside.
Now how can I get them both to work again when one requires a feature that breaks the other?
I attached a video of the lag in question.
