I'm getting the dreaded "Not enough physical memory is available to power on..." message while using Player 15.5.7 (unnecessary explanation why last). I can only get two vmwares up with about 2.5G each, then I'm shot. While doing other things I can easily use up 12G of memory so apparently I'm not limited to 8G of 16G for some reason which would have explained things. Maybe vmware still thinks 8G is max? 3d graphics is off so one would think I could at least get 3G into two machines even if limited to 8G.
Have tried changing these old parameters in config.ini but to no avail. Maybe there is some other parameter that actually would help? Is there some list of config parameters anywhere (found a list for vmware 6 )?
vmmon.disableHostParameters = TRUE
prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "1" (also tried 25)
prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = "true"
prefvmx.allVMMemoryLimit = "12288" (I remember fiddling with these in workstation 9 or something ages ago)
Background: Upgrading my very old server to WIN11. Unfortunately buying Workstation 17.5 was a nono, happen to have one of the 6 core CPU's that aren't accepted by vmware. Running Player 16.5 under WIN11 works though. Unfortunately there is a load of things I need to upgrade so I'm still running Win 7 Ultimate which again limits me to Player 15.5.7. Running Sql server and IIS using a 2.5G WIN7 virtual machine works. But having a W10 virtual machine for secondary temporary things with 2.5G is no fun. Works, barely. Will take at least until next summer (or the next after that) until I have upgraded everything so I'm running on WIN11 alone. Still going to be limited to 16.5 but I can live with that for another 5 years.
(and I can use 5G for both virtual machines under WIN11/vmplayer 16.5 so this is either a bug and/or hopefully some parameter needed in 15.5.7)
