    Hello, I am working on my assignment though vmware workstation. I purchased vmware workstation as my license expired. However, the license key I got after purchasing still says it is invalid, what is the reason for it?

    Expect a moderator to move your thread to the area for Workstation Pro now that I’ve reported it, since this has nothing to do with a vSphere security advisory.

    The key you receive should just work.  Are you sure you are entering the key for the correct major version/release of Workstation?  IOW, A key for version 16 will not work on version 15.

    I am having this same error. My workstation pro installed in my windows PC is VMWare workstation pro 15.5 but its evaluation period expired. I went ahead and bought license key but the only one available in vmware store is Version 17 so I went ahead and buy thinking it will work but when I enter the key it says it's invalid. What can I do?

    If you use Windows enter the licence-key in the registry. That is very reliable / was in the past.

    I have installed VMware-Workstation-Full-17.0.2-21581411.x86_64.bundle on Linux Mint 22..04.2 LTS Mint with Kernal 6.1.0  and it installed fine, no errors, it launched and when I enter the provided key in email form vmware for my purchase on first launch after install or from Help Enter License Key I get Invalid License Key.

    sudo vmware-installer -l
    Product Name Product Version
    ==================== ====================
    vmware-workstation 17.0.2.21581411

    Thanks

    Running Fedora 38 and was getting the same invalid key error as mentioned below for: VMware-Workstation-Full-17.5.0-22583795.x86_64

    This KB did the trick:
    https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/83062

    There's a typo at this step in the KB:

    2) Open terminal and type "VMware"

    You have to type "vmware".

    I don't know why there's a difference in starting vmware from the command line vs the GUI but you can only successfully enter a key by starting the application via command line. Go figure.
