  • 1.  Auto populate resource field

    Posted Feb 16, 2017 04:55 AM

    Hi,

I want to default the value of a resource field to current user, similar to the Manager field in Project object. When I checked in Project object, I see the default value of Manager is Current user, which holds hint that it was not fixed and is populated from a macro. Can you please help me on how to default the field to hold current user value?

    Thanks.

    Monica

I came across this old topic trying to find the solution to setting the "Current User" as the default to a look up on resources.

    Has this been resolved somehow?

    Alternative technique to implement?

    Any help will be appreciated.

On 16.3.2 version, I can see the "Current user" set as default. Ex:  Manager under Investment object.

This also available under Timesheet->Select tasks also. A default filter (Assigned Resource = Current User) is applied when choosing the Select Tasks  option.

      Thanks, Venkitta, for your comment.

The issue here concerns a Custom Attribute configured as a lookup field browsing resources.

While in 16.3.2 (and earlier versions), standard attributes such as "Manager" support defaulting to the Current User, this behavior is not supported for custom attributes we create - for example, a "Requestor" field.

The article you referenced explains how to restore the "Current User" default in the Manager attribute after a change, but unfortunately, this option is not available when configuring custom resource lookups.

Hello Monica,  Dimitris is correct. This is a special functionality, implemented in a few stock fields. If you want have this functionality implemented in other stock fields, or if you want the capability in custom fields, please request an enhancement.

      Thanks Kathryn,

I've submitted an enhancement idea to the Clarity Innovation Forum titled:
"Enable 'Current User' as Default Value for Custom Look-Up Resource Attributes (e.g., Requestor)" - D1537

The enhancement addresses a known limitation where custom resource-based look-up fields (like a "Requestor") cannot dynamically default to the user creating the record - a feature currently available only in a few OOTB fields (e.g., Project Manager).

The goal is to extend this functionality to custom attributes, enhancing configurability and user experience across use cases such as request forms, custom investments, and workflows.

I would truly appreciate your support by voting for this idea in the Innovation Forum to help bring it to implementation.
