I've been in discussion with VMware customer support re. a networking issue. My guest OS is Ubuntu 22.04.3. I was told by customer support that this is an unsupported guest OS, and was referred to the VMware Compatibility Guide which, sure enough, skips right from Ubuntu version 21.04 to 22.10, Skipping over the LTS 22.04 version.
But, on the VMware Fusion 13.0 Release Notes page in the "What's New" section, under New Guest Operating System Support, Ubuntu 22.04 is explicitly listed.
VMware customer support will hardly give you the time of day unless you're running a supported guest OS, as shown in their compatibility database, so I had to set up a seriously outdated Ubuntu 21.04 VM from an ISO that sets up the extremely awkward and unpopular Unity desktop, designed by idiot savants at Canonical (which also demonstrated the network breakage issue). This, to even enter into a discussion with VMware customer support!
So which is it? Is Ubuntu 22.04 a supported guest OS, or not! VMware people, please get your act together on this!
(It turns out that the networking problem apparently lies with macOS "Sonoma" since it also affects other virtualizers besides VMware Fusion.)
