    If you install the GUI on your Ubuntu server and then restart it, you will need to download the GUI again. Please tell me the solution.

    What Ubuntu version?

    Can you describe exactly the steps you took to install the GUI on Ubuntu server. For example, what apt commands and packages did you install?

      sudo su
    apt-get clean
    cd /var/lib/apt
    mv lists lists.old
    mkdir -p lists/partial
    apt-get clean
    apt-get update
        apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

    22.04.3LTS

    There should be no need to re-install ubuntu-desktop. This almost sounds like you are using a live environment.

    I assume that you have installed Ubuntu Server to the hard drive and are booting from that hard drive before installing ubuntu-desktop.

    You will also need to reinstall Ubuntu Server itself.

    No, if you have installed Ubuntu server to the hard drive you do not need to keep reinstalling it.

    Are you sure you are running off the hard drive and not rebooting to the installation ISO.

    If you reboot you will lose all your settings and be prompted to reinstall.

    If that is happening, you are rebooting into the installer on the ISO file and not to the hard drive. 

    After installing Ubuntu server to the hard drive, shut down the VM. Then open the VM’s settings in the Fusion GUI, and open the settings for the CD/DVD device. Uncheck the box to connect the CD to the VM. 

    Now reboot the VM. You should now be running from the hard drive. Now install the Ubuntu-desktop package. Any work you do now will available between restarts.
