    Hello,

i'm trying to provide a XP-guest OS for my study. In order to get this i use the Software "VMware vCenter Converter Standalone V.6.1.1" (should be the lateste version) on my xp-device and convert the local machine by using default settings. The hypervisor is the "Vmware Workstation 12 Player". After the conversion i try to run it and the OS starts normaly but after a short loading-screen it appears a blue-screen and then a message "windows cant be started successfully...the reason could be a software-/hardware change...safe mode". i tried safe mode und different kind of conversion setting but nothing worked. so please help me...

    sorry for my broken english

    regards

    Welcome to the Community,

Please provide a screenshot of the bluescreen, and attach the VM's latest vmware.log to a reply post.

Have a look at this thread by continuum - Latest Converter corrupts XP boot files. In there, he mentions that there may be an issue with the latest VMware Converter utility possibly corrupting the boot sector in Windows XP.

    Hi Doug
    this is a different problem.
OPs VM boots fine it just runs into a 7E bluescreen while starting services.
7E bsods are trickier than 7Bs - this problem may require to boot the XP from a PE-CD and make manual registry adjustments.
In my case Converter has corrupted the ntldr file - thats the partitionboot-sector and so XP was not able to boot at all.
It may help to run the Converter "configure machine" option again but I doubt that that will be enough.
Looks like manual intervention is required.

    Hi Matthias
you configured the VM in a way that I would not recommend for the first start after P2V.
Do NOT configure more CPU-cores as the original machine used.
Also do not assign more RAM than the original machine used.
Remove USB,soundcard and all parallel and serial ports.
You can re-add them later one by one but first you have to survive the first boot.
If it is important feel free to call me via skype: ich spreche auch deutsch und kenne mich gut mit dem Thema aus.

    Hi Ulli

thanks for your advice. i recaptured the mashine and deleted all the useless hardware-componants befor i started the vm for the first time and now i can start it in safe-mode. The next step for me is to figure out how to solve the problem in safe mode. If there is a progress/problem i will inform you.

    greetings

Next step would be to disable all services that are no longer required in the virtual environment
