Windows 10 1903 with ESXi / vSphere.

Windows 10 1903 was released on 4/18/2019. I got the ISO, attached it to a newly created VM and attempted to boot from it. I get the prompt 'Press any key to boot from CD or DVD' and after I hit a key I get the windows logo displayed and then nothing. It just sits there, I have let the VM idle for a few hours just to ensure its not actually thinking away. The vCPU usage is running however - looks like its taking an entire core but actually nothing happens.

I was able to get the ISO to boot, install, and run the OS on VMware Workstation 15, and Microsoft Hyper-V but not on vSphere / ESXi host.

Here is some additional info that may or may not be useful

Workstation build: 15.0.4 build-12990004

ESXi Build: VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 13006603

vCenter Version: 6.7.0.30000

vSphere Client version: 6.7.0.30000

Work Around:

Adding this to the VMX file seemes to have resolved the issue. 'Build 18346.1, 18348.1, 18351.1, 18353.1, 18356.1, 18358.1 64-bit and - Microsoft Community

monitor_control.enable_fullcpuid = "TRUE"

Someone from VMware may want to look into the issue formally - Windows 1903 may require some changes to the defaults VMware uses when selecting 'Windows 10' as the operating system for VMX files.

i am not sure i understand what you mean this.

i do have a similar issue, whever i update windows 10 1903 to jul 2019 updates i get the same issue, windows won't boot and shows black screen.

Can you please advies how to apply your settings ?

Sad to say adding those lines to my vmx file did not resolve this for me.

I still get a failure to boot after Windows Update installs 1903 and tries to boot with it.

Every time Windows ends up removing the update and booting up with the previous version.

Then the next time I boot up the image Windows Update starts installing 1903 all over again.

Endless loop.

Try updating to update 3 if you haven't, by lab is running 1903 on the lastest build of 6.7 update 3 without any issues.
