  • 1.  Which Vmware License do I need?

    Posted Jan 07, 2020 09:20 PM

    Hi,

I'm a bit new to Vmware and the whole virtualization technology.

I understand how to configure Vmware but not sure about which license I need to get.

    I have the following configuration:

    Host Server: PowerEdge R740

    VMware ESXi: 6.7 u3

Ram: 128GB( will be increased to 192GB)

    ProcessorIntel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5118 CPU @ 2.30GHz

         Socket: 2

         Core per socket: 12

         logical Processors: 48

    VMs: 50

I plan on using veeam for my backups

I want to purchase the most economical license that will support the above config for a business.

    .

    Hi,

Here you will find all the necessary information. The versions differ most in the enabled features.

Take a look to the vSphere Essentials for ~480,- bucks and 60,- for the yearly subscription.  The Essentials Bundle contains 3x2 CPU ESXi and a single vCenter Ess. instance license. Its the cheapest way to get a license which enables the needed APIs for backups.

Compare that to vSphere ESXi Standard license per pCPU which costs around 850,- and 250,- for yearly SUPPORT and Subscription.
