  • 1.  which product to run a virtual machine on Windows Vista 64-bit?

Dear all, I'm overwhelmed by the choice of products...

I want to run a VM with Linux and and a VM with XP on a Windows Vista 64-bit OS (running on an i7).

I tried to install the VMware Server 2.0, but I cannot get it to work.

The VMware services fail to start, but that should not surprize me because I get error messages during the installation...

Am I using the right product? Or should I try to install and deploy another product?

    thank you for your advice,

    gert

Either Workstation 6.x or Player 2.x will run on Vista hosts, and are designed for user-interactive guests.

If I understand the Player concept: when install that product, I should buy VM's that are created by others, or I should create a VM with a the VM Server product on another machine?

Since I want to create my own VM's, I guess I need the Workstation product, right?

    thanks for your reply

Either that or a 3rd party utility like EasyVMX.com or my own VMXBuilder application. Refer to Alessandro's writeups for creating your own VMs.
