  • 1.  which is the tool best for pulling reports

    Guys,

    I am having more than 100 ESX hosts now and I have to pull out the data's of month performance for all the esx hosts and have the the average values of them in another sheet with their peak values. The parameters are cpu, memery and disk mainly. I have downloaded veeam evaluation version.

    I would like to know whcih tool can provide me the data at one shot, because through vc console I have to go for every hosts at a time and then provide the data.

    Once confirmed from you guys and trying with the evaluation version, I would go for the licensed version.

    Veeam reporter is pretty good  - http://www.veeam.com/vmware-esx-reporter.html

    Though I must admit, I tend to script these sorts of reports wherever possible and save a few pennies for more exciting things.(may be tricky on 100 servers though)

    If I were you, I'd get hold of the guys at Veeam - they are pretty good with doing demos and the usual presales stuff. They also normally bring a 'proper' techie along - so you can get low level answers pretty quickly.

    With an environment of 100 servers needing reporting . . I am sure you can get them on site pretty quickly.

    At the same time, don't discount any other vendors.

    Age old art IT negotiation . .

    1. Find all the Vendors
    2. Get them all to show you their product
    3. Evaluate all products (perhaps get some freebies while they try wow you)
    4. Pick your favourite prouct
    5. Find their biggest competition
    6. Tell your vendor you are going with product 2, because product (even though it is your favourite) is too expensive
    7. Watch the price drop 50% (most I've seen is ove 90% discount)
    8. negotiate a little while longer (while running the product in 'eval' - with the best support you're ever going to get on the product)

    While 'evaluating' - make sure to dial the normal support lines to check out how product support is etc.
