Where to ''Download vSphere Client''

  • 1.  Where to ''Download vSphere Client''

    Posted Jan 28, 2025 03:38 AM

    Hi there,

I went to a new company and while I looked at their systems I found they run their systems on ESXi 5.3 and 5.5. My problems is that they don't have any vCenter (older or newer) nor have the vShpere client somewhere (on a computer or repository), so I can't access the VMs. When something hangs their solution is to unplug the server. When I type the address for the ESXi it enters the Welcome page. If I try to click on the links to download the client it goes nowhere.

Is there any repository or new site/link from Broadcom to get the older version?

    Thanks in advance.

Someone posted a few links here, not sure it will help: https://www.reddit.com/r/vmware/comments/t9ppcw/vmware_vsphere_client_download/

I also want to know if the Windows version of vSphere Client has been discontinued by Broadcom?

vSphere has only had a web based interface for ages.

I should really read to the end of the thread. D'oh.

I think the Windows version of the client was discontinued by VMware ages ago, when the Web Client was first introduced.

I know this post is a little old, but if you don't have the desktop client for v5.5, you can use VMware Workstation to connect to ESXi and manage VM's.  Get them upgraded ASAP, and teach them proper IT procedures.

    Hey Broadcom Community,

Since there's no vCenter in place and the direct download link from the ESXi welcome page isn't responding, the safest way to get the correct installer for ESXi 5.3 or 5.5 is through Broadcom's official support portal (as VMware downloads are now hosted there). You'll need a registered account with the appropriate entitlement to access legacy vSphere Client installers, as public download repositories for older versions are no longer openly listed. Avoid third-party or random file-sharing sites, as they may contain modified or unsafe builds. If portal access isn't available, another practical option is enabling the ESXi Host Client (for 5.5 U2 and later) via browser, which removes the need for the old Windows vSphere Client altogether. Also, before making changes, ensure backups are in place since unplugging servers is not a sustainable solution. And just like finding hidden channels on tv garden, sometimes the right access path is there-you just need the correct official gateway to reach it securely.

    Thanks and Best Regards!!

If you're working with standalone VMware ESXi 5.3 and 5.5 hosts without VMware vCenter Server, you don't actually need a separate download site-the legacy vSphere Client installer was normally available directly from the ESXi host itself, but since those links often fail now due to outdated TLS/browser support, try accessing the host from an older browser version or enable TLS 1.0/1.1 temporarily, or download the matching vSphere Client version from dramalive VMware's official portal at (ensure the client version matches the ESXi build); relying on unplugging the server is risky, so getting proper client access should be your first priority.

If you're running standalone VMware ESXi 5.3 and 5.5 without vCenter Server, you normally download the legacy VMware vSphere Client directly from the ESXi host by going to the main host page and selecting "Download vSphere Client," but since those older builds are no longer officially hosted, you may need to check VMware's legacy download portal or trusted repositories-just be careful to avoid random third-party sites (the way people casually search unrelated URLs like sportzfy) and instead stick to verified VMware sources or internal backups to safely regain VM access instead of resorting to unplugging the server.

    Thanks!

Can't you use Workstation Pro? A compatible version of that might be more readily available.

I know someone may have already suggested it.  Download and install the latest VMware Workstation you should be able to connect to your hosts and manage them.

Do you have a Broadcom log in?
