Where to download VMware Update Manager

The ESXi 5.1.0 patch documentation (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2043968) describes that one can use VMware Update Manager to install the patches. It says "For details, see the Installing and Administering VMware vSphere Update Manager.". It's just that there is no link pointing to where to get the installer. And if I search VMware web for "Update Manager" then I get a gazillion hits with documentaiton and discussions for it, but no download link.

Is is embedded in some other installer or ... ?

VMware Update Manager is bundled into the install package of vCenter.

it is included in the vCenter ISO.

As noted above, just use the very same autostart menu as you used to install vCenter and a bit lower down you will find the Update Manager. It could run on the same machine as vCenter or a separate Windows server if needed.

I'm running free version of ESXi to evaluate the server installation, which isn't working very well which is why I needed to apply ESXi patches. But I need a vCenter license to download it so I have to revert to manual install. But the howto for alternative manual method wasn't too helpful

You can register for free 60 trial version and download the vSphere suite which include vCenter binaries as well
