    Hello,

We just completed an upgrade to vSphere ESXi 7.0U3. When I try
to map the CD drive to an ISO image, I get the following error message, also attached.

"Failed ro reconfigure virtual machine XXXXX. Connection control operation failed for disk "ide1:0'

I have found a possible fix to be:

Expand CD drive options and change the Device Mode to Passthrough CD-ROM

However, when attempting to set the Device Mode to Passthrough CD-ROM, the
Passthrough CD-ROM does not exist as an option.

    Thank you

, If you have a CD device on your ESXi host you can use Emulate CD-ROM mode for read-only.

However, If you have an ISO on a CD-Drive on a Desktop from where you're accessing VM using the vSphere client, you will have to use Passthrough CD-ROM mode with CD/DVD Drive set to 'Client Device'. This allows both read and write.

    Hi,

More than strange I would say questionable,

Haven't tried all possible combinations but as far as I know with the most recent version of ESXi, the 7.0U3i (and if so much, even in ESXi 8.0x), with the "HOST Client" version 2.1.x the option "Passthrough CD-ROM" is not available and you cannot choose as CD-ROM a Client devices as well. The options I mentioned are instead available through the vCenter object.
