Vsphere can not find the latest vmware tools 12.5.1 update

Hi there,

We are using EXSi 8.0.3. The VM servers have vmware tools version 12,4,5 (12421) installed and showed no update available. From Broadcom website, it mentioned user need update to version 12.5.1 to patch the new vulnerability. Any idea how to get it installed on those vm servers except install the vmware tools one by one?

Hi!
You need to syncronize, go to "Lifecycle Manager" -> "Settings", "Patch setup" then "Action" and "Sync updates". After that go to updates and do "Upgrade to match the host"

Thanks for your quick response. I followed your instruction, but stuck at last step, I didn't see the vmware tools update. Any idea?

PS what about create a new baselines to deploy the update?

With ESXI selected go to "Updates" then "VMware Tools". There you have the option "Upgrade to Match Host".

You do not need to create new baselines if your binaries are the old ones but you will need to obtain your unique "download token" until April 23, 2025

Hi David,

I could imagine it's due to broadcom's new download policy. You may have to generate a download token first, then do the configurations on your servers/vcenter etc.

Thanks for your information. I will get the new token for any future updates. Right now, by using the baseline, the new VMware Tools 12.5.1 has been deployed to the vms.
