vSphere 8 CPU Topology

Hi All

So with the best practice now being that Cores per Socket should be set to "Assigned at Power On", how do we deploy VM's with this setting?

We have Templates set accordingly however deployments are ending up with manual settings. I assume this is because the Flavor Mapping has a Cores per Socket setting that needs to be set and can only be an Integer.

I have looked at the Set-VM command and it appears that -CoresPerSocket also needs to be an integer.

Any thoughts?

I had the same issue and we figure it out it was because we had the template in Content library as VM template. We've change it as OVF and now it's working fine.

We also discovered this problem.  Did you get any further this with it please?  Our preference, like yours, is to build from templates.

Hi @dwilde

Use hard-coded in VM's YAML form instead of using 'VM flavour mapping'; will give you flexiability to change during VM's requesting.

Also for CPU change, starting from vSphere7.x It's wired as if you even try directly from vSphere web HTML , you won't be able to add 'integer' number per CPU even if VM powered-on or Off even 'Hot-plug' feature is enabled.

If you want to change from CPU core / CPU count, you must change from vSphere while VM is powered; other than won't work & will show fake success from vRA side. [This happened with me a lot]
