  • 1.  vpxd-****-****.dmp 1GB Application Data VMWare directory, can I delete?

    Posted May 07, 2008 09:25 AM

On my Virtual Center Server, in my logged in users account under Application Data\VMWare directory I have over 1GB of these .dmp files, can I delete them they just look like temporary files. I was logged in as administrator and done all the install under administrator and have just done a blackberry install so now I have to log in as that admin account. Since then every 5-10 minutes it has created these dmp files. Does anybody know why these have all of a sudden started creating them?

Since the 1st of May they seem to have stopped. Very weird.

    Cheers JED

I don't have any in any of my virtual center so, I would first try to open one in notepad. If it's not text, then it may actually be an actual binary core dump. Typically dmp files are coredumps, so hopefully some task or process isn't causing issues with the vc process.

These files contain a "snapshot" of memory at the time of a VirtualCenter crash.

They are not used by VirtualCenter and are only useful for debugging purposes to identify the reason for the crash.

The vpxd log files normally contain the error which led to VirtualCenter crashing and creating the dmp.

The logs will also record the fact that the dmp is being created.

These log files are located in the Logs directory in Application Data\VMware.

If you don't plan on running a debugger against the coredump, either zip and save them off, or delete them.
