  • 1.  .vmx points to vmdk file in wrong vm

    Hello once more.

VMware 5.0 Essentials.  We have 3 VMs on one datastore.  I was browsing through the .vmx file for one of them, and notice that "scsi0:1.fileName" points to a .vmdk file in one of the other VMs.  The file being pointed to does not exist.  The VMs seem to be working fine.

Any ideas?  Can I ignore this?

    Thanks,

It seems, there is no need to worry. may be due to naming convention (display VM name and vmdk names are different).

Can you please post all relevant screenshots for the same for better troubleshooting?

When you say "... browsing through the .vmx file ...", does that mean you are viewing it with an editor? Maybe the .vmdk was attached at some point in time and has been removed. From what you say, I'd expect the virtual disk is not visible in the VM's settings, and the .vmx file contains an entry like scsi0:1.present = "FALSE". In this case the entry shouldn't cause any issues.

    Thank you vickyvision2020 and a.p.

Right on the money.  I was looking at the .vmx file with less.  This disk is not shown in the VM's settings and the entry scsi0:1.present = "FALSE" is indeed in the .vmx file.

Thanks very much for your time folks,
