VMware VirtualCenter Service not Starting

Hello everyone,

I've got a Problem with my VMware VirtualCenter Service on my Windows 2008R2 Standard Server.

Everytime I restart the Server the "VMware VirtualCenter Service" won't start. I've searched on the internet for the Problem and found out, that the WWW-Publishing Servivce could be the Problem.

The first time it helped to stop the WWW-Service. But now I have the problem again! :-(

I have tested it and have stopped all services. After that I've started all Services again (as in the Knowledge Base described) and have the same Problem...

Does anyone have the same situation or any solutions for this?

Tell us your vCenter Server version and please, attach the vpxd.log located by default on: C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs\

My VCenter Version is 5.1 Build 1473063

I've attached the vpxd-12005.log in the ZIP-Archive. (I don't have a normal "vpxd.log" in that folder). I hope that's the right Log-File.

Sorry, but this log didn't helps, you may try look for the vpxd.log one.

Anyway, can you confirm if the SSO service is running ? And the vCenter database is online ?

If you're unsure about the SSO service, please post a image with the list of VMware related services.

I don't have a "vpxd.log" on my VCenter Server?????

The SSO Service is running - All services are running now. But if I restart the Server, I'll have the same problem with the VCenter Service..

To get a better understanding of your question, let me summarize it.

Q) When ever you restart your server, vCenter service is not start automatically.

Ans)  please clarify the below points.

1) Are you getting any errors when you are start  manually? If yes. please sent the screenshot.

2) What is the start-up type of vCenter service? Make sure its set to Automatic.

3) Please refer the eventvwr to know about the eventID if the service did crashed.

----> No, the Service just stops when I try to start it. See the eventvwr-error in 3).

2) What is the start-up type of vCenter service? Make sure its set to Automatic.

----> It's set to Automatic

3) Please refer the eventvwr to know about the eventID if the service did crashed.

---> Event ID: 1000, "Failed to intialize VMware VirtualCenter. Shutting down..."

No more Errors are there.

We need to get vpxd.log to dig further. The vpxd.log file  is located at "C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Virtual Center\Logs" on your vCenter server.

Please follow below steps

1) Verify that the configuration of the ODBC Data Source (DSN) used for connection to the database for vCenter Server is correct.

2) Verify the VMware VirtualCenter Service is running with the proper credentials

3) Verify there is enough free disk space on the vCenter Server

4)    Verify that ports 902, 80, 8080, 8433 and 443 are not being used by any other application

---> As I said before, I don't have an vpxd.log in this folder. I've searched for it, but didn't find it anywhere on my vCenter server...

1) Verify that the configuration of the ODBC Data Source (DSN) used for connection to the database for vCenter Server is correct.

----> The VMWare vCenter DSN Configuration uses the "localhost\VIM_SQLEXP" Server.

----> The Integrated Windows authentication is used.

----> Connect to SQL Server to obtain default settings for the options is set.

----> Change the default database to: VIM_VCDB

----> Mirror server is empty. (USE ANSI quoted identifiers and nulls,paddings and warnings is set.

----> Peform translation for character data is set.

----> TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY

2) Verify the VMware VirtualCenter Service is running with the proper credentials

----> The service starts wirth ".\Administrator" as user and the PW.

3) Verify there is enough free disk space on the vCenter Server

---> We have over 100GB free disk space.

4)   Verify that ports 902, 80, 8080, 8433 and 443 are not being used by any other application

---> The WWW-Publishing service blocked one of these Ports, but as I said in my first post, the service is deactivated.

I have rechecked the logs which you have attached (vpxd-125005.log) and could see lots of below logs.

Please refer the below link to fix this issue.
