We are trying to update VMware vCenter Server 8.0.2.0000 : Pre-update check results consistently end in 'Internal error occurs during execution of update process'

No matter what version I do the pre-update check for, I keep getting this vague error message. What can we do to troubleshoot this? The logfiles have been retrieved do not give any Error messages or even recent log-entries where we would expect them.

    Just a guess.

I received the same error message during an upgrade from version 6.7 to the latest 8.0 version.
In the end it was a certificate issue, so it may be worth looking for related log entries.

Yes, turned out there was an expired root certificate there. That was also why multiple services wouldn't start after a reboot of the server. Certificate has been removed and a new one placed, services now start as they are supposed to and pre-update check now actually gives understandable warnings.

It could be a certificate issue. I would check there.
