  • 1.  VMware ESXi - Restricted Transactional Memory (RTM) is unsupported

I'm attempting to put the system into a processor compatibility mode but I'm seeing the following errors

Restricted Transactional Memory (RTM) is unsupported
    Hardware Lock Elision is unsupported

    System Specs:

    ABOX-5210PG4-Z9 containing

    Intel W-1290TE

    32Gb DDR4

    2 x 2TB SSD

I have a cluster enabling vSAN, EVC compatibility mode, live migration, and fault tolerant mode. The addition of another node enables additional vSAN redundancy levels (failures to tolerate in storage can increase and so there is additional safety). However the main showstopper came up when adding the host to the cluster in EVC mode.

The cluster of four nodes has diverse Intel processors such as: Xeon E-2278GE 3.3GHz (16 LP), Core i7-9700TE 1.8GHz (8 LP), Xeon Silver 4215 2.5GHz (16 LP), Xeon Silver 4210R 2.4GHz (20 LP). The EVC compatibility level is set conservatively to Broadwell. Those four hosts are compatible, although any EVC level I chose brought up errors with the ABOX.

Any ideas why I'm hitting a block?

As your post needs moving to the correct area for ESXi, I have reported it to the moderators.

The W-1290TE does not have appear to have Transaction Synchronization Extensions (TSX). That is the feature required to have RTM and HLE.

TSX is one of those Intel CPU features that are quite inconsistent across generations. It was introduced in Haswell but had bugs and were disabled in certain CPUs thereafter.
