  • 1.  Vmware ESXi No heartbeat after restart / pcpu did not respond to nmi

    Posted Apr 17, 2023 05:58 PM

    Hello,
My vmware ESXi install went down. After trying to figure out what went wrong, we hooked up a monitor to server and found out that it crashed to this purple screen. I'm not able to do anything or get the server up or at least boot to vmware

Server was running AMD Ryzen 5950x, 128GB of RAM and 3HDDs. Installation was relatively new, maybe 2 years, tried to maintain it

    Thank you

UPDATE: after total power off (turning PSU off and unplugging it from electricity) and restart, it showed different error (pcpu did not respond to nmi). looks like 26 cores of the cpu are locked for some reason.

    Hi ,

Once you restart the ESXi host after taking the PSOD snip, it should boot up and seems this is a known issue with ESXi 7.0.3 Build: 18644231 and the same is resolved with ESXi 7.0 Update 3c - Refer KB - ESXi 7.0 Update 3 host fails with a backtrace NMI IPI: Panic requested by another PCPU. Hi, thank you for your reply.

I am unable to boot correctly to system - it either throws another error with purple screen or is stuck at loading (nfsclient loaded sucessfully)
