I need a bit information about vmware data recovery in terms of backing up our virtual machines.  We have a Data centre where we have about over 100 VM's, these are backed up by a 3rd party software.

We have also sites across europe, about 8 sites which have their own datacentre setup in VC, and also have 2 esx servers in a cluster and have about 8 Vm's on each site.  These 8 Vm's per site are not backed up, so looking for a simple solution, and thought of  using vmware data recovery.  The esx servers in each site have access to shared storage which is in form of a nfs.

So how would i implement vmware data recovery , would i install it once per a virtual centre at one specific site and use that one to backup all the VM's in the 8 sites, so could the vmware data recovery backup Vm's at different data centres at one time.

    Any advise on this.

I think it's better if you deploy a Data Recovery appliance per site, since the data will pass thru the appliance to be deduped, etc. If you use a centralized Data Recovery, you will put a lot of stress on you WAN when backups kick in.

i would go for per site as it would not consumed the bandwidth across datacenters, also it make sense when during restoration as it's in LAN speed.

Did this work? I've done this but now our WAN connections are sort of stressed because of the generated traffic.
