I'm pretty new to ESXi. I got SSH turned on. Connected to it.

Now i want to do some work on the vm images (problem with my snapshots not going away).

Anyhow, when I try to run the command "vmware-cmd -l" it gives me:

    "-ash: vmware-cmd: not found"

What gives? What could be wrong?

vmware-cmd is not available in the unsupported Busybox console of ESXi

You'll need to utilize the vCLI which has a remote version of vmware-cmd

You are right but see this KB: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1006160

In the product versions ESXi 4 is reported but it doesn't support vmware-cmd.

The KB explicitly says "Log in as root to the ESX host with an SSH client. / Run the command: vmware-cmd -s register ..."

    Strange world...

    Cheers!

vmware-cmd is only available on ESX classic

On ESXi, you have two options

    1. Use the vCLI

    2. Use vim-cmd which is a bit more cryptic but does the same thing.

    A good read here:
