I'm investigating a time shift issue with several 2008 R2 guests on vSphere 4.0.

Time synch between guest and ESX has been disabled in VMTools but one of the customers engineers has asked me to double check as "w32tm /query /configuration" indicates that

    VMICTimeProvider.dll is enabled.

    The registry indicates the same:

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\VMICTimeProvider

VMICTimeProvider is not even mentioned on the above in physical machines.

I have read umpteen references to HyperV and VMICTimeProvider but I'm struggling to find any reference involving vmware.

So my question it what is VMICTimeProvider and what role does it have if any in a VMware guest?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Same issue for me.

Migration between hosts cause forced timesynchronization using VMNIC even its disabled.

I found solution on vm kb which forcefully disable time synchro
