vmdk locked - how can I remove the lock ?

Hi,

I copied a virtual machine from one esxi to another, but I can't start the machine due to a lock on the vmdk;

I tried the vmkfstools -L release but I get the following error :

Command release failed
Error: Inappropriate ioctl for device

I can clone the harddrive from the original esxi, but on the taregt one, it doesn't work;

I did the same with 3 others virtual machines vmdks, and it works fine.

does anyone know how to release the lock ?

try restarting the management agents of the host where the guest is registered, for the CLI

services.sh restart

It didn't work.

Any other idea ?

I'll try to copy the machine via vmware converter and see if I have the same error.

try removing the .lck file while it is powered off

if that does not work/.lck file is not there in your VM's folder (in datastore), try removing it from inventory and add it back to inventory (browse its datastore & right click .vmx file via vsphere client)

I finally did a copy from the virtual machine via the converter and started on the second server;

I already tried to locate the lock but couldn't locate it.

thanks for sharing your solution but my suggestions were not in sequence. Anyway, as long as that got it works.
