    Really, Windows 2000?

    You do know that support for that OS ended on July 13th 2010?

    Are you running that VM on vSphere 4?

    For which support has ended on January 14th 2020.

    The vmware.log does not really show anything except a snapshot consolidation the evening before, then a long time nothing and then a hard power off of the VM around 03:00.

    Was that you?

    There are known issues with the SYNC driver and or VSS, see KB5962168

    Can you try disabling the SYNC driver?

    That is the same vmware.log file you already sent.

    The snapshot consolidation that seems to have been done, was that triggered manually?

    Or is that part of an automated procedure?

    Are there any backup tools active at the time?

    Is there anything in the guest OS eventlogs?

    -> No

    Or is that part of an automated procedure?

    -> Yes, i removed some old snapshots to bypass this step.

    Are there any backup tools active at the time?

    -> We have backup tool Commvault, backup was done at 09:31 PM so no at the same time.

    Is there anything in the guest OS eventlogs? :

    -> This error in system log, i guess it's during backup process :

    The device 'VMware Virtual disk SCSI Disk Device' (SCSI\Disk&Ven_VMware&Prod_Virtual_disk\5&1982005&0&000500) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

    -> This Warnning message :

    The Virtual Storage Filter Driver is disabled through the registry. It is inactive for all disk drives.

    Thanks,

    I have no idea how to proceed with an analysis of your issue.

    Since this thread doesn't really belong in the PowerCLI community I'm moving it to the VMware vSphere™ community.
