  • 1.  VM powering off every hour

So im sure there is a simple answer but for some reason I can't find it on the Vsphere Client..

I am running ESXi 5.5 and have a 2012 R2 Domain controller / DNS server running on it. Every hour the Virtual Machine will power off. I've checked power options on the client and don't see anything that sticks out. All my other VM's stay powered on, however they are just workstations not servers. Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

Can you post the event log from windows machine to check who initiated the reboot , it is the guest itself or vmware tools. that will help to isolate the issue. Event id 1074

Thank you. I looked in event viewer and my only guess is since its an evaluation copy of server 2012 R2 and it on a LAN, its unable to activate which is causing it to shutdown... hopefully i can find a way to activate it. Its just a test lab but still, rather annoying.

Have you checked system event logs for USER32 in Windows itself why its going down ?

If you haven't activated windows then activate it first. I had same issue where licensing service was shuting down Windows sharp after one hour when it was in evaluation mode, this is by design and resolution is only to activate. Check event log closely if shutdown initiated by wlms.exe (Windows License manager service) This will reoccur until you activate windows.

You can extend evaluation for one more count with command slmgr -rearm for the time being you arrange serial key.
