VM does not detect network drivers

I'm need to VMWare and have installed a Windows 7 VM but it does not detect the drivers for the network. What drivers do I need to provide it, is it network drivers for the host machine or is it something specific to VMWare ?

    Thanks

Power off the VM, go to Edit Settings and try changing the network driver to e1000, or to vmxnet3. Also, be sure VMware Tools is installed.

Also have in ming that Windows 7 is not supported for ESXi, only the classic version, so it may not work as expected. Check this KB also:

Have you installed VMware tools inside the guest ? That should provide required drivers for you .

    Hope this helps .

No I haven't installed VMWare Tools inside the guest yet and I cannot see any options to do this, I've just been managing the VMWare server with VMWare Go at the moment. Is there something else I should be using instead ?

Your help is very much appreciated !

    Thanks

WIth the VM powerd on, right click it on the inventory and click on "Install/upgrade VMware Tools". Follow the setup steps inside the VM console.

I think I'm missing something probably glaringly obvious here but I have the VM running the only vm inventory list I know about if from the VMWare Go page but I don't see the option you are referring to when I right click on the machine.

I attached a screen shot, hopefully you can advise what I am doing wrong !

    Thanks

Ah now I got it. Look, open a web browser and point it to your ESXi. Download from this page the vSphere Client. With it installed, point it to your ESXi, login with the root pasword, and then you will see what I am talking about.

    We're getting somewhere now !

Installed the VSphere Client, logged in and selected to Install/Upgrade the guest vmware tools but I get the error on the screen shot attached about 'No VMware tools package'. Is this because I'm using a guest OS that is not supported or I think I read in another thread that there was a problem find the required file?

    Thanks

On the Edit Settings -> Options tab, you can change the Guest OS type. Check if Win 7 is available. If not, try WIndows 2008 or vista.

Hello, i have the same problem.

I use a ESXi with an Server 2008 64bit Maschine on it. I can login into "vsphere" and "vmware go" so i can access the maschine successfully.

I installed W2K8 64bit and got no network adapters.

After i read that post i also tried to install several VMware Tolls, like vista 32 and 64, server 2008 32 and 64 and server 2003.

In all situations i got now adapter for my network. Its an "IBM Systemx3650 7979G51" I looked at the compatible list and found the IBM systemx 3650 Server.

I hope you can help me becouse it is really importBest regards from Germany.

EDIT: I tried a 2003 Server 32bit and the Networks works fine. So wicht driver do i need and what is wrong with server 2008 64bit
